At RNS Tyre & Auto Services, DFP (Diesel Particulate Filter) delete is the process of removing the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) from a vehicle’s exhaust system and reprogramming the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to work without the diesel particulate filter. The goal of such a modification is usually to improve vehicle performance and, potentially, reduce maintenance costs. Some users also report improved fuel efficiency.
DPF delete is performed by first physically removing the diesel particulate filter from the vehicle (assuming that all the necessary tools and programming skills are in place). The vehicle is then connected to DPF delete kits or specific tools that are capable of reprogramming the ECU.
Additionally, all DPF functions are also removed from the ECU. Alternatively, a DPF delete kit could allow the user to circumvent regular operations to avoid deleting the functions.
Removing the diesel particulate filter has several advantages, mainly related to performance and maintenance costs. DPF delete promoters usually state that the primary reason for performing such modifications is to improve the car’s performance, which is, in fact, highly likely in many cases.
DPF delete removes limitations that are usually imposed upon the exhaust process, allowing gasses to be expelled more freely, reducing exhaust backpressure. As a result, torque and horsepower increase slightly.
Soot particles are caught by diesel particulate filters (DPF), which prevent them from entering the exhaust system. To preserve performance, they must be emptied on a regular basis, just like any other filter. This is referred to as ‘Regeneration’ in the case of a DPF.
When the exhaust temperature is high on the highway, passive regeneration occurs automatically. The exhaust goes via the diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) first, then through the diesel particulate filter, which captures soot particles within the aftertreatment device (ATD).
Modern diesel vehicles have been required to incorporate a diesel particulate filter since 2009. PSA Peugeot Citroen, on the other hand, installed the filters in its diesel vehicles as early as 2000,
