A Roadworthy Certificate, also known as a safety certificate, is a document that certifies your vehicle is safe to be on public roads. It is not an overall mechanical evaluation of the vehicle but focuses on key safety elements like brakes, tires, lights, and steering. This certification is crucial for ensuring the safety of all road users.

Why Do You Need a Roadworthy Certificate?

A Roadworthy Certificate is legally required in several situations:

• Selling a car:

  In many states, you must provide a current RWC to the new owner.

• Registering a used vehicle:

  An RWC is required to register or transfer registration in many Australian states.

• Clearing a defect notice:

  Vehicles issued with a defect notice may need to obtain an RWC to prove the faults have been fixed.
